Brave web browser is in beta, ok? It means that strange things might happen while using it… It crashes all the time and stuff… I hope it will get better over time and get some browser market share. However, now I can give Brave only 2 out of 5 stars.
What is special about Brave? Well… They will block ads for you (make sites faster) and you will pay to your favorite websites some money (default is 5$/mo) – Yes, in bitcoins. And yes, You can be an idiot and choose not to pay a dime while all ads are blocked. But! keep reading 🙂
Also, with Brave, users can earn money if they choose to have ads while browsing the web. Wait a sec, which ads? Brave ads. Brave is building it`s own ad network by replacing ads that use third-party tracking. Legal issues, aside, here, we have at least one question… How much money there will be per average user? Not much, but in 2 years, it can be something, I guess… Brave claims that will share up to 15% with the user. How much will be 15%? Well, if Brave respects privacy of a user, they cannot have highly targeted ads, so… Advertisers will pay less…
Brave aims to solve privacy issues and invasive ads issue from a user point of view, and also to help publishers make more money. This will be a new ad network that puts both revenue share and control in users hands. But, again, if they respect privacy, they cannot have highly targeted ads…
This thing has a huge potential. It can change a lot of things, Brave can kill some big guys in advertising space, but also it can disappear overnight due to legal issues or lack of adoption.
